91Hilux: I totally agree with you. Sadly, this country is not cracking down on one of the worst killers. Guns are bad, but DUI driving kills many more people. Just that those cases aren't put out as prominently.

91Hilux is right on. These laws should have been in place many years ago. Just think of the lives that could have been saved!

Right from the article...."Somewhere we've lost the notion of 'personal responsibility.' Is that asking too much?"

That is more babysitting... People need to start taking responsibility for their actions, regardless of how famous or rich they are.
1st DUI: Mandatory jail time, big fines, and NO LICENSE for 1 year. 2nd DUI: Longer Jail, bigger fines, NO LICENSE for 3 years, Immobilizer required in car after 3 years is up. 3rd DUI: Felony Prison term, NO LICENSE FOREVER, name entered into national database (like sex offender) so they can't drive a car ANYWHERE.
My best friend died Sept 8th, 2002 waiting at a bus stop when a drunk driver drove off the road and took out the whole but stop stand.

So how does that keep them from riding with someone else that is drunk, using a different vehicle, or keeping several vehicle available that the team doesn't know about??? Education and common sense. Maybe require use of a professional driver if they are planning to drink, violations automatically resulting in game suspensions...
What about the rest of the population?

A much better idea would be; If caught DUI your off the team. Or in other words your fired. Put in their contract in big bold letters

Try revoking their contracts and kicking them off the team when they are convicted of crimes. Especially felonies such as this one. And don't let them back. Who in the heck thought Michael Vick deserves another shot?

Alcohol use/abuse is rampant in our nation. We read of many high profile incidents such as this one, but rarely those that tear families apart. My late Brother was an alcoholic, went through six rehab programs and died at 48 years of age. He caused many vehicle accidents, injuries to others and huge amounts of property damages. Yes the courts took away his license for varying lengths of time, but in his state he could relocate his mobile home and start over with DUIs. It has been 17 years since his death and his "baby brother" still feels the loss of a friend and brother.
I will not judge this incident, but rather ask this question, when will people in the spotlight (e.g. sports, show business, etc.) realize they are looked up to by today's youth? Thus far, there have been few shining stars.

Whatever, a man with access to MILLIONS of dollars each year will just buy a replacement car...or get his WAG to rent one in her name.
What are they going to do? make it a condition of employment that you have to surrender your vehicles so they can install Cowboys Lowjacks so that any time they don't like what you're doing they can seize your car?
Talk about trampling on freedoms.
