with your researches in frakking you will know that most of the operators do not have to reveal what they are pumping in the ground. We know that some companies have used chemical slurries cannot be put into drinking water. We don't know what most of these companies because they do not have to reveal this information. This activity is of course a violation of the Clean Water Act. Of course they received a dispensation for that. My reference to mining town was not literal but in the sense that mining leaves behind a wasteland. With frakking you can't see it but it is still there. As with all extractive industries it is exploit and move on leaving the wastes behind. In this regard Frakking is not different than 19 century hydraulic mining. What will this mean to future generations? No one knows especially the frakkers. So will we be poisoning the ground waters of the shale formations and leaving a mess behind for future generations that may need the water?

What we have is very weak regulation of new processes until a major disaster. Frakking will be a future disaster. That is how the government doesn't work. It is a bad idea to pump all kinds of toxic material into the ground. You have no idea where it will go or what problems it will cause. Removing large amounts of water and putting it underground mixed with chemicals can cause water shortages. In some places frakking is using significant amounts of the available water. Frakking is a form of mining and mining is alway destructive and short term. Ever been to an old mining town? What do you see? Junk everywhere and some blocked off holes in the ground.

We still hear of illegals crossing up from Mexico. The eastern 3/4 of AZ. is called the Tucson Sector and is the busiest in the U.S. 120,000 crossers last year, down from >600,000 back in 2000. Also, last year they seized >1 million lbs. of marijuana and almost 150 people died in the desert. So they are still very busy. Warren {:-D
